This year’s Pre-Conference Farm Visit will be at Bristol Docks!


Farm Visit Programme

Wednesday 22nd November 2017

13:30     Coach departs from the Bristol Marriott Hotel, City Centre for Bristol Docks (please assemble at the   NFST reception desk no later than 13:20)

14:00     Arrive at Bristol Port's St Andrews House and gather in the 1st floor presentation suite

14:05     Welcome and port overview

14:30     Board coach for tour of the port

16:00/16:30     Coach leaves port and returns to the Bristol Marriott Hotel, City Centre.



Royal Portbury Dock

At Avonmouth Dock vessels up to 40,000 dwt can be discharged and loaded. Currently handling a wide variety of cargoes such as aggregate, animal feed, grain, wood pellets, minerals and coal.

An interesting and detailed tour of the Dockyard is being organised on Wednesday 22nd October.  There will be a mini bus leaving the hotel at approximatly 1.30pm.  Alternatively delegates may drive directly to the Dockyard although details of vehicles will be required in advance.  Please specify on the Booking Form


The bulk terminal at RPD handles vessels up to 130,000 dwt discharging coal and animal feeds and loading grain. RPD has the largest sea lock in the UK with dimensions of 42.7m beam x 365.7m length x 14.5m arrival draft.

There are 2 x 300m berths with four discharge units with a discharge rate of 25,000 mt / 24 hrs. In addition there is a grain loader capable of loading panamax sized vessels. Linked to the berth by the conveyor is a coal stockyard with a 750,000 mt capacity, two animal feed and grain warehouses with a 200,000 mt capacity and grain silos with a capacity of 15,000 mt. The bulk stockyard is rail connected for delivery of coal to the end user.
